Apex hunter captures prey

This falcon caught and killed this pigeon near feet away from me and I was lucky enough to watch the entire struggle for life. The life of one ends to further the life of another. After some struggling the pigeon eventually gives in and accepts its fate as prey, the falcon only began to peck once the struggle was over. Crazy to say but some animals entire existence is to be food.

Yelling into the void

I don’t know why this is but I made this website to feel more in control after deleting my Instagram. I don’t regret deleting but I do feel like the posts I make are not being seen and that is upsetting to be honest with you. I’m considering placing QR codes in my town and car to drive more traffic to the website. But still i don’t feel like I need social acceptance and validation that Instagram gives its users but it is upsetting to see virtually no traffic this month.

Book review: Moby Dick – Herman Melville

We’ve all heard the jokes but this is really a phenomal book that deserves its place as an american literature classic. In fact you could make an arguement that it is three books in onw. Book one: an exhaustive accounting of the sperm whale and the whaling industry. Book two: the story of Captain Ahab. Book three: half essay half rhapsody. A book like Moby Dick is so rich in story and theme that like hamlet even centuries later it is hard to say definitively what Melville theme attempted when writing Moby Dick. Merely as marine exposition the book is unmatched, merely as action narrative the story is a good one.

MLK weekend in Miami. Came for my friend’s birthday, would’ve like to be with my family a bit more but I think I split my time with friends and family about as good as I could. Went to e11ven as the bookend of every night. Only spent there on the first and last. Probably wouldn’t have spent on the last night but had some casino winnings so I said fuck it and spent nearly all my winnings in about 3 hours. These girls were hot but damn that place is a ripoff. I did meet some people and that was nice, I love going out and seeing shows but I also love staying home and not wrecking my liver. Did not meet the love of my life unfortunately but I believe she’ll appear to me one day.

Overall a nice trip but I’m glad to be back home now although when I got back home it was -10•F, rude awakening.

5 days of play, now back to the grind

Tell me this doesn’t look like a 10$ loaf at Whole Foods.

I made this bread using the forkish method. Anyone serious about learning to make bread should buy the book flour, salt, water, yeast. By ken forkish to learn his method and make a delicious loaf

Here is a progress pic from my first ever loaf

Mines is the one on the right by far the worst tasting of the three. This was probably not only my first try at the forkish method but my first time baking a loaf of bread ever. You can see that I’ve improved over time.

Over all baking bread has become one hobby that I still practice over time as it is delicious, and while time consuming most of the time is passive. Even though it takes 5+ hours to make a loaf the amount of actual work is probably only half an hour, the rest is just waiting. The trade you make in thirty minutes of work to get a nice homemade loaf is one I will make each time. Plus the feeling of that first bite in to a crunchy soft and wonderfully buttery warm slice of bread, ethereal. Plus the quality and cost of ingredients is probably cheaper than the loaf at market place.

Sure your first few loaves may be totally bad but that’s part of the process. No one picks up a guitar and plays stairway to heaven right away. I’m so glad I have this as a hobby and take a lot of pride in the bread I bake.

New years is a time where we reflect on the changes we made in the previous year and focus our goals for the upcoming year.

Above is something I saw on the internet where someone had printed out the calendar and used it to keep track of there good and bad daily habits. I kept the habits hidde. but I plan to track them all year and see how I do. Hoping to see improvement.

Below is my vision board and while most of it I think is self explanatory I have a lot of plans for 2024.

2023 was actually such an amazing year for me and I hope I can keep that momentum I had going into the final months of the year into 2024, if I can do that this year will be even better.

2024 is for myself accountable, leaving my excuses for my shortcomings in 2023. Hoping that we all have a great new year, best wishes.

Some fire chicken noodle soup I made earlier in the month just for a day like this. Was impressed with the thermos that I stored the soup in that I used for the first time ever today. Certainly will use again.

I used to love days like this I always thought and still think snow makes things look so pretty. However I’ve learned to associate other things with winter as well. I hate driving in the winter though I haven’t had to do it much this winter and I actually drove really good to day (slow) but think it’s the best way to drive in the snow. I’ve always known but today I finally did it and boy was the driving much less stressful. It really hasn’t stopped today so I predict tomorrow will also be a slow ride type of day. Anyway let’s appreciate the first video because wow 🤩

Merry Christmas

For the second year my landlord has gotten me a cookie box on the top is last years design and on the bottom is this years.

Top 2022 Bottom 2023

Only difference between this year and last is the glaze used on the blank sensation cookie

I never eat the cookie and use the tin to fill it up with junk. I might not use the one I got this year at all but it’s so nice that he does this as he really doesn’t have to.

Merry Christmas to you all I hope someone is showing you some love.

In the social media app BeReal’s latest update, they now have a option to take a Live Photo instead, calling it “BTS” which has to be enabled after the update. This is certainly a move that in my opinion enhances the overall app experience. I would just like to point out that I had this idea back in May of this year.

Proof:

It’s possible this was already “in the works” when I tweeted this and Im not asking for royalties or nothing this is mainly posted as proof I’m a visionary. Had a similar thing happen with Apple when I had the idea in Feb 2022 to leave a video message as a voicemail for a missed facetime call. And 16 months later Apple annouces a new facetime update for iOS 17 which does exactly what I asked (and many other things) but still… third eyes open.

WordPress Unwrapped

In regards to Spotify Unwrapped, a yearly review of your top songs and artists of the year I thought I’d make a little WordPress Unwrapped to commemorate the first year (actually 9 months) since purchasing my own domain.

I bought my domain on March 31, 2023 I’ve written for 15,239 words and 80,694 charcters not including this post. (Source : Trust me bro.) If you wanted to read the whole website in its entirety it would take 100-160 minutes depending on your reading speed.

An average blog post has an average word count of 192.8 and 1021.4 characters. A quick search shows that it takes an average reader one and a half to two minutes to read 200 words. So on average I make posts that can be read in 2 minutes or less.

My shortest post can certainly be read faster than that with only 3 words and 12 characters. It’s a funny way I tricked myself (and chat gpt) into buying a coffee, something I do at minimum three times a week no matter what.

My longest post is just about a short story with 842 words and 4357 characters and would take you roughly 5 minutes to read, its about my trip to Dublin including photos and reviews of common locations. I will once again say I really enjoyed Dublin and learning of it’s rebellious history which I believe still exists there today. I hope to return one day.

In 259 days of owning and writing on JuanSocarraz.com I’ve had 183 views and 121 unique visitors. Averaging .7 views and 0.4 viewers and 0.02 likes per day and 2.1 views 1.4 viewers and 0.08 likes per post. Big up to the 62 repeat viewers.

My busiest month was in April basically my grand opening, my least busy month was October with only two view(er)s the entire month.
My list of views sorted by country. USA, Canada, and China are top three.

Since buying this website back on March 31 I’ve also made 86 posts an average of .3 posts a day or 2.1 posts a week. I’d like to see my average view(er)s per day go up in 2024, perhaps I’ll also post more. Im overall really happy with the purchase of this website, I do want to do more things for it like customize the HTML and what not (still so many good drafts i need to work on) but for now I’m happy with what I’ve done to this online space and intend to use it in 2024 and beyond as my online “brand”.
