Edge of the earth/post mordem boredom – Kid Cudi. When this album first came out Kid Cudi got a lot of hate for it, I believe he blocked comments on a lot of the content about this album on twitter, I didn’t bother to listen to this album due to the negative reviews until around the pandemic on a whim because it was billed to me as a grunge cudi album and I was curious to hear what that sounded like. I must admit this is my favorite Kid Cudi albums besides kids see ghosts which is a masterpiece start to finish but I really like this album and even though this may not be my favorite track in the album I really like both parts of this song and think they have a strong connection to each other. The way I intrepet it is that the narrartor is going to kill himself in edge of the earth and is looking back at his life before deciding to go through with it, and post mordem boredom is what he feels about the after life. I still love speeding bullet to heaven and usually when artists do something so unlike what the usually do the fans will not appreciate it and it seems that was certaintly the case with most of Cudi’s fan base on Speeding bullet but I really appreciate this album and wish he would have made more music like this. His new albums have been okay to good but this one always stands out to me as a true gem. I really wish he would try to make more music in this style since the release but I am thankful he released this knowing it likely was not going to be recieved well by most of his fanbase. It takes guts to do something as an artist so different from the norm knowing it may not be recieved as well as you’d hope. I for one love this album and this track is still something I play often.
Skit #1
Premise: Guy takes wife to restaurant, staff is giving bad service, and is openly rude. Guy doesn’t get it. He went on his brothers recommendation who goes all the time and raves about the food and service. He then realizes staff thinks he’s his brother and is cheating on his wife He is not. Guy has an identical twin and the staff thinks he is his twin brother cheating on his wife.
Scene 1: Exterior shot of resturant lit up at night
Scene 2: Entering (wide shot) guy and girl entering resturant
Guy to hostess: Table for two please under Perry(brothers name)
Scene 3 – seated at table
Guy: So what do you think of this place? My brother raves about it and even made the reservation for us.
Girl (impressed): I love the decor but so far the service has been terrible.
Scene 4 – Waiter approaches, drops water and throws shade. (conflict)
Waiter(making intense eye contact): Hello and welcome to La Camilona what can I get started for you today?
Guy: Why don’t we start with drinks I’ll have an old fashioned and my friend here will have the house red wine
Waiter(sarcastically): Oh your *friend* noted
Guy and girl pick up on this and are confused. Waiter quickly exits without out giving a chance for a response.
Guy: Did you notice that? What’s his problem?
Girl: Oh come on that’s nothing loosen up.
Scene 5 : Reveal
Waiter comes back with drinks: For the sir and his “friend” are you ready to order your food?
Guy: Okay hang on a minute here
Girl (rolling her eyes): Oh God
Guy: What’s with the attitude buddy I’ve never had a waiter be so rude to me in my life!
Waiter: I wasn’t aware of me giving any attitude. I would like to apologize it’s just really busy and the kitchen and bar have been struggling to keep up with the pace of orders coming in I’m sorry your drinks took so long to arrive. I’m also not used to seeing you here with another woman.
Guy: Wait what are you talking about? This is my first time in this restaurant. I came here based on a recommendation from my brother he rants about the food and service here and says its always excellent.
Waiter: Okay sure and I’m the Queen of England. Waiter (leaning in, low voice): Come on, man. Don’t make me call you out in front of her. We all know you bring your wife here.
Guy looks at host stand where group of staff is clearly gossiping and as soon as eye contact is made staff turns away and leaves host stand and resumes service.
Guy: I think there’s been a miss understanding I have an identical twin
Waiter (sarcastically) How convenient. You expect me to believe that
Guy: Yes I do actually, I can prove it! (Pulls out phone and shows a recent picture of him with his brother in matching outfits.)
Waiter (starting to believe him and is now a bit embarrased, takes food orders and says): So sorry for the confusion your food orders will be out momentarily
(Waiter exits)
Scene 6 – Conclusion
Guy (turns to girl): Can you believe this?
Girl: I’ve never seen you get so worked up like this. Will you be alright? Do you want to leave?
Guy: No it’s fine, I’m fine. I just can’t believe they thought I was my brother. I wonder if my brother is cheating on his wife.
Girl: Well if he does he shouldn’t take her here, they clearly side with the wife, let’s just try to enjoy dinner, huh?
End of skit
I HATE THESE THINGS.
I don’t get the purpose of them at all. These seem to be only on the entrances to highways too. Maybe there’s some good reason or data that shows why these have become so prevalent over the last decade but to me it makes no sense. I like the old way better no lights just drive on, let’s just go back to that. As a driver I seriously question anyone who is like yeah that’s what I want to do, I want to stop my car completely before getting maybe 50 yards to enter the highway where cars are going 65 mph or more. I am not ashamed to admit this but I always blow right past these things whenever I encounter them while driving.
Song of the week (4/2/2023)
Teezo Touchdown – Social Cues What can I say about this song I found it by complete accident but listened to it for about an hour straight. The message really speaks to me as someone who felt a bit socially inept in high school and I love the 80’s synth wave vibe, the stretching of words like conversaaaatiiiioooonnnn, the auto tune and the guitar riff all combined together make for a killer song. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
