Song of the week (4/23/23)

Something you know – Blood orange. Not something I’d usually listen to but the song feels like a slice of butter melting on a stack of hot pancakes. Smooth silky and dreamy. I really like the lyrics as well, which to me represent going away from the comforting know choices and doing the uncomfortable and difficult which I believe is neccesary in order to achieve self improvement. The guitar riff is fun to play and easy to learn, I really admire music that is like this. It give me hope that even though I am not ultra talented or technical with guitar I can still learn and maybe one day create good music. Check this song out.

I loved going to Miami seaquarium as a kid and I believe that they are a force for good but as I got older they were frequent prostest outside the entrance which only got bigger as more bad press came around. I see this post on their LinkedIn and I wondered, why not have the algae eating fish in the tank with them? This tank also does not at all simulate a natural environment for manatees. I do realize that manatees in the wild would likely have boat scars or have died from a boat collision as many wild manatees do, but this post made me sad.

If you ever wonder, can I?

The answer is you can.

This is an old photo but even if it wasn’t the food in here would be okay. I love canning it’s a great way to preserve food. It’s a easy choice as it keeps food fresh for longer and I typically use it for extending the life of produce. Im also a big fan of the rotisserie or raw chicken and have gotten pretty good and separating the pieces. I also use the bones to make a chicken stock.

The reciepe for canning usually involes biling water, adding vinegar, salt and sugar. You may use other spices and perservaties as well.

The reciepe for chicken stock is as follows.

Chicken bones (the bones of 2 rotisserie chickens, raw bones tend to produce richer, darker broth)

2 celery ribs with leaves, cut into chunks

2 medium carrots, cut into chunks

2 medium onions, quartered

2 bay leaves

1 leek

1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger

8 to 10 whole peppercorns

Salt to taste

Enough water to cover all ingredients

Instructions:

Place all ingredients in a soup kettle or Dutch oven. Slowly bring to a boil; reduce heat until mixture is just at a simmer. Simmer, uncovered, for 3-4 hours, skimming foam as necessary.

One cooked  filter out ingredients with funnel and mesh into a liquid container. Freeze and use when needed

Fountains – Drake. I love the afrobeat on this song. The chorus is so catchy and the lyrics are so beautiful. The production and mixing is great and the song is full of emotion. Definitely my favorite song on the album as well.

Montana becomes first US state to ban TikTok

The bill know as SB 419 passed in the legislature with a 54 to 43 vote, not at all a small margin. The bill will only block new downloads of the app and will not prevent the use of the app from those who already have it on their phones. The bill will also still need to be signed into law and if passed wont take place until Janurary 2024. Since the introduction of the restrict act in March of this year there has been a lot of talk about banning the app. The Restrict app to me is a very dangerous piece of legislation as it essentially bans free speech on a platform because the country of the app developers are on the United States naughty list which in the bill is China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Venezula, and Cuba (I.E. communist countries). I for one don’t like communism but I don’t like the infrigement of first amendment rights or the broadness of this bill. The list of bad guy countries can change at any moment. And a note, as many have mentioned TikTok isn’t doing anything with data that Meta, or google aren’t also doing. I believe the fear is that we’ve already seen how facebook was used to influence an election and that the US fears that TikTok (china) now has this same data and perhaps even better data and may use it to also interfere with the upcoming election in 2024. I really like TikTok and think some of these concerns are legitimate but also don’t think banning the app will do anything except enrage US citizens and further sew the seeds of distrust in the government. I also think that China is approaching and has it’s eyes set on more global control and that the United states days as global leader may be numbered.

The images presented are AI generated by DALL-E, followed by real photos I took of the location

1.) Miami, FL

2.) Great Ocean Road Melbourne Austrailia.

It’s really surprising how good AI has gotten at not only genereating images of utter fiction for example “rollerblading on the rings of saturn” but also at generating images of real world places. The proliferation of AI is something that both intrigues and scares me. It has taken human evolution millions of years to reach this point and it will take a long time before we reach the next cresnedo in our evolution a la space odyssey 2001. AI however once equal to humans physcially (which is where they are mostly lacking) and mentally will evolve exponetially quicker and they will surpass us 100x over in just a few months. The fact is this AI takeover is happening but the surprise is that we’ve even made it this far. I am optimistic there will not be a “terminator” type of future but its hard to know for sure.

Im so proud of this

But the truth is I only did it as on oath to god for lent, I can’t tell you how close I was to resetting yesterday. I still have a lot of weed and paraphernalia. I won’t feel good until I get rid of these. I don’t think I have the strength to just throw them away but I know if I do it will be a huge step to my continued sobriety. I don’t know if i can make it another 45 days but I will certainly try. I wish I could just smoke sometimes but I know I can never maintain a healthy relationship with marijuana.
